JUNE MEMBERSHIP MEETING Our monthly membership meeting will be held on Thursday June 7th at 8am at the Mt Airy Fire Hall (corner of Watersville Rd and Main St, park at the rear/lower level and enter through the back doors). We will have our usual hour of introductions, committee reports, and discussions of new and old business. Remember that minutes of all our monthly meetings can be found on the Chamber website at www.mtairybusiness.com Every month members also get to see all the advertising, newspaper coverage and correspondence for the past month. We will be welcoming new members who have helped us reach the milestone of 350 members; and we will also be presenting checks to our two scholarship winners! BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGE I A morning Business Card Exchange will be held Thursday June 14th, 8am to 9am at Adventure Park USA, New Market. Door prizes are welcomed - door prizes can be a gift certificate to a local business or maybe something to promote your business like a T-shirt featuring your business name. BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGE II An afternoon Business Card Exchange will be held Wednesday June 27th, 4pm to 7pm, at the Olive Leaf Café, in the Twin Arch Center. Again, door prizes are always welcomed. MEMBERSHIP REPORT The following five new businesses joined in May: CHEVY CHASE BANK CREATIVE MORTGAGE SOLUTIONS FASTFRAME JIMMYS LAWN & LANDSCAPE WOW FLOORS We currently have a record number of 351members. [Membership Committee Chair Dennis Emerson, Sherman Emerson Insurance.] PHONE BOOK UPDATE The 2007 Mount Airy Phone Book (and the new Business Edition) have been distributed by mail to local residents. Copies of the book are available at all Chamber meetings and events. Copies can also be found at the Mount Airy Library on Ridge Avenue, and at Town Hall on Main Street. CARD EXCHANGES REPORT Thank you to everyone involved in producing our two networking events in May. Thanks to Leslie Brenneman and all the staff at Costco Wholesale for hosting our May 8th morning event, which was held in partnership with the Frederick County Chamber. It was a very well attended event with a healthy turnout of members from both organizations. Thanks also to Phyllis Baker and Kathy Brossart for hosting our May 22nd event at Mt. Airy Sports Supply. We had a good turnout of members and several guests who we will hope to soon welcome as new members. AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE MEETING The Ambassador Committee will meet immediately following the general Chamber meeting on Thursday, June 7, 2007. We will be discussing a number of committee activities, and welcome all interested members as well as committee members. [Ellie Bonde, Chair, Ambassador Committee] BY-LAWS REVIEW The Chamber’s new By-Laws were passed by the membership at the May 3rd general meeting. They can be found on the website at www.mtairybusiness.com [Tim Barkley, By-Laws Committee] COMMUNITY EXPO 2008 Howard and Jeanne LeRoux of Mt Airy Dent Repair & Touchup have offered to co-chair this committee and organize the 2008 event. Good luck to them and their committee! MINI GOLF TOURNAMENT The second annual Chamber Mini-Golf Tournament was held May 31st at Adventure Park USA. We had a full field of players and a good time was had by all. The event raised money for Mt Airy Net. Our thanks to Leslie Brenneman and the social committee for organizing such a fun event. CHAMBER POLO SHIRTS First VP Aaron Kahn, of Eclipse Security, Inc. will be accepting orders for the Chamber polo shirts at the June membership meeting. The shirts are $24 each. Cash and checks made out to the GMACC are the only accepted form of payment. For those who are paying cash, the exact amount is required, change is not guaranteed. Samples will be available for sizing purposes in both the women's and men's styles. The GMACC is not responsible for incorrect size orders or any shrinkage that may occur. If you have recently won a shirt at a chamber event and your size is available, you can pick it up at the meeting. Aaron will also be accepting orders at the business card exchange on June 14th at Adventure Park from 8-9:30am. The order will be placed no later than June 15th so if you are unable to attend the meeting or card exchange, please contact Aaron at

. MAIN STREET FARMERS MARKET The Mount Airy Main Street Association (MAMSA) is pleased to announce Mount Airy Main Street Farmers Market. Each Wednesday, beginning May 16th, local area Farmers will bring their fresh produce to Downtown Mount Airy between the hours of 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The market will be located behind the old Train Station at 3 North Main Street. Local Farmers will offer you locally grown vegetables, fruits, fresh cut flowers, baked goods, gluten free baked goods, herbs, pies/rolls and honey. A variety of produce will be offered throughout the season as vegetables and fruits grow ripe. The market will be open during the entire summer months until early Fall in September. BLOSSOM AND BASKET BOUTIQUE GRAND OPENING The Blossom & Basket Boutique has moved to its new location at 3 North Main Street, Mount Airy. On Thursday, June 14th, owners Ellie and Rene Bonde and staff will be holding a Grand Opening from 10am to 5pm and all are invited. CHAMBER FOLDERS The Greater Mt Airy Chamber of Commerce now has pocket folders available for all members to use. The glossy folders include four interior sheets: committee descriptions, Chamber events, leadership and an application form. The folders are available at all Chamber events and meetings – or by contacting Ambassadors Committee Chair Ellie Bonde of the Blossom & Basket Boutique at (301) 831-0010.
