Professional Development Events
The Professional Development Committee has been working hard to bring
Chamber members great workshops and seminars. The following professional
development series is being presented in May and June.
Small Business Accounting Basics, Instructor Sharon Mariaca, Tuesday, May
12th, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Mt. Airy Senior Center: A session on basic accounting
discussing invoicing, accounts receivable, inventory, entering bills, paying
bills, accounts payable and what this does to the Profit & Loss Statement.
Quick Books Pro Applications and Accounting Basics, Instructor Sharon Mariaca,
Thursday, May 14th, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Mt. Airy Library, Large Meeting
Room: A Quick Books session with the college’s Mobile Lab lap top computers
teaching these principles with the software computerization.
Basics of Women-/Minority-Owned Government Contracting, Presentation
by Russell Teter, Small Business Development Coordinator/Counselor, SBDC,
Harford Community College, 8:45 a.m., after the general membership meeting on
Thursday, June 4, 2009. Please RSVP so we can ensure we have enough room to
accommodate everyone.
Small Business Budgeting and Reporting, Instructor Sharon Mariaca, Monday,
June 15th, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Mt. Airy Library: A session on budgeting, bank
reconciliations, reports, graphing, etc.
Quick Books Pro Applications of Budgeting and Reporting, Instructor Sharon
Mariaca, Wednesday, June 17th, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Carroll Community College’s
Washington Road campus, Room N*202: A Quick Books session with desk
top computers teaching these principles with the software computerization.

GMACC Scholarships
The 2009 GMACC scholarships have been awarded to the following individuals:
- Dallas Tolbard of Frederick High School in the amount of $3,500.00
- Stephannie Martin of the University of Maryland in the amount of $1,000.00
- Melissa Aellen of Urbana High School in the amount of $1,000.00
- Jessica Vossler of Hood College in the amount of $1,000.00

2009 Expo
The 2009 Expo Committee would like to thank
all community and Chamber members for coming
out to and supporting the 2009 Mt. Airy
Expo. It was a beautiful weekend and another
successful event!
Membership Directory
We are very close to finishing the 2009 Membership
Directory. Your listing is FREE with membership and
advertising opportunities are still available. If you
haven’t renewed for 2009 or want to advertise, your
LAST chance to do so will be at Thursday’s Membership
Meeting so please plan to attend.
General Membership Meeting
The GMACC general membership meeting will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. In addition to
Chamber business, this meeting is also special as we will be donating more than $11,000.00 between our
2009 scholarship winners and Mt. Airy Elementary School who appeared on the cover of the 2008-2009
Mt. Airy Phone Book.
