COMMUNITY EXPO
The Greater Mt. Airy Chamber of Commerce (GMACC) held their Annual Community Expo on
April 19, 2008 at the Fireman’s Carnival Grounds and by all accounts, it was a resounding success.
The time and effort required to put this event together is quite substantial and the committee, led by
Jeanne and Howard LeRoux, have already begun plans for 2009. Although this was truly an event
supported by the community and our countless sponsors , we want to take this opportunity to thank
all members of the community Expo Committee for their diligence and commitment over the past
year to put it all together. The committee includes Howard LeRoux and Jeanne LeRoux (co-chairs),
Ken Matthews, Tom Watkins, Lynda Hamel, Ginny MacColl, Mark Jarema, Sandy Shumate, Gail
Crowder, Alice Decker, Lucia Simmons, Bruce James, Paul Clay, Shawn Reilly and John Seymour.
MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Our monthly membership meeting will be held on Thursday,
May 1 at 8:00 a.m. at the Mt. Airy Fire Hall on Watersville
Road. We will have our usual hour of introductions, committee
reports, and discussions of new and old business. This
meeting will also include the formal presentation of our 2nd
Annual GMACC Scholarship winners. The GMACC received
almost two dozen applications for our scholarships. These
scholarships are awarded to local students who have a superb
academic record, financial need and a proven track record of
giving back to the community. Our 1st place winner is
Sharon Comer who will receive $2,500.00. Sharon is a
graduate of Linganore High School who is currently attending
Hood College and student teaching at Twin Ridge Elementary.
Our 2nd place winner is Emily Ann Perper who will
receive $1,000.00. Emily is graduating from Urbana High
School and will be attending Grove City College in Grove
City, Pennsylvania in the fall. We want to thank Keir Knight
of Plain English Writing & Design, LLC for donating the
ceremonial checks that we will be presenting to our winners.
MAY NETWORKING EVENTS
The month of May is an exciting time for us as wel will have
three networking events throughout the month. On Thursday,
May 8 we kick it off with a joint Business Card Exchange
at the FMH Building in Mt. Airy. This is a significant networking
opportunity as the Carroll County Chamber of
Commerce and the Frederick Chamber of Commerce are cohosting
along with us. Bring plenty of business cards as all
three chambers have been promoting this event! An RSVP is
required so please check our website for details.
