AUGUST MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Our monthly membership meeting will be held on Thursday August 3rd at 8am at the Mt Airy Fire Hall (corner of Watersville Rd and Main St, park at the rear/lower level and enter through the back doors).

We will have our usual hour of introductions, committee reports and discussions of new and old business.

During the introduction period at the start of the meeting all those attending are able to stand and introduce themselves, their business and a sentence or two about what they do. Members attending for the first time will be encouraged to take a little extra time to introduce themselves.

Remember that minutes of all our monthly meetings can be found on the Chamber website at www.mtairybusiness.com

If you haven’t attended a membership meeting before - come along, get involved and see what the Chamber is up to!

BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGE

The business card exchange for August is on the 28th from 4:00pm-7:00pm. It is being hosted by two companies this month, Firehouse Pottery Company and Concetta's Italian Grocer. These two business are side by side on Main Street.

Please remember that parking is limited and you can park in the municipal parking lot.
Feel free to bring a door prize and remember if you know of a business who is thinking of joining the Chamber this is a great event to invite them to.

BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGES IN 2007

Also, the Social Committee has had many requests from members to host a card exchange. If this is something you have been thinking about please let one of the Committee members know you are interested in doing this. We only have 5 months left in 2007. This is a tremendous opportunity for you to showcase your company.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you,

Leslie Brenneman, Ramzy Nassar - Costco Wholesale. Social Committee

MEDIA COVERAGE

All four of our local newspapers (The Messenger, The Carroll County Times, The Gazette and the Frederick News Post) ran articles about our recent milestone of reaching 300 members.

The support of these papers’ reporters and editors is hugely appreciated – and has itself been a major contribution to our organization’s recent success. Thank you to them all.

GROUP ADVERTISING PAGES

Last month both The Gazette and the Frederick News Post ran advertising sections featuring adverts from the Chamber (promoting upcoming card exchanges) and from Chamber members.

Provident Bank and Paradise Title both won free ads (actually, paid for by the Chamber) as part of this ongoing program. Stay tuned for future opportunities to get involved and maybe win yourself a free ad in one of our local papers!

SECOND E-MAIL LIST

There is a new Chamber e-mail group designed for general announcements and postings: "mtairybusinessgeneral"
Unlike the main group, this new group is not moderated and members are free to post anything related to their own business or to the local business community in general. We ask that members use common sense in choosing the content and amount of messages sent to the list. A more formal set of "rules" may be developed later if deemed necessary.
To view messages posted to the group, or to join, please visit:
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/mtairybusinessgeneral/
An edited digest of postings will be submitted to the main e-mail group once a week.

You do not have to be a member of the group to view messages.

You do need to join the group to be able to post a message. (Either sign in with a Yahoo profile to the link above, or e-mail me directly and I will add you as a member).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (301) 829-1982 or klknight@pipeline.com

[Advertising & Marketing Committee Chair Keir Knight]

CHAMBER FOLDERS

The Greater Mt Airy Chamber of Commerce now has pocket folders available for all members to use. The glossy folders include four interior sheets: committee descriptions, Chamber events, leadership and an application form.

The folders are available at all Chamber events and meetings – or by contacting Ambassadors Committee Chair Ellie Bonde of the Blossom & Basket Boutique at (301) 831-0010.

They are perfect to use to introduce potential members to the Chamber.
