The meeting began at approximately 8:00 AM.

INTRODUCTIONS WERE HEARD


Recognition of new members: Nick Kutrumbis with Vino100, Pampered Chef, the new director of Mt. Airy Library, Patty Sundberg.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES


Kerry Turner called for a motion to approve the last meeting's minutes. Archie Rogers moved for approval and Ellie Bonde seconded the motion. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:


Energy Co-op / Tim Barkley: The cost is #37.50. To determine savings you need to visit the Chamber website.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:


KERRY TURNER, 1st VICE PRESIDENT (Frederick News Post)

  • Kerry called attention to the calendar on the back of the agenda. Please note these dates.

  • Community Expo / Shawn Reilly: There are 60 participating vendors. Need volunteers for the event. We all need to support the

  • Advertising & Marketing/ Carol Cahall (The Main Event): We had a great planning meeting. The ads for the business card exchanges are all worked out. Need more volunteers for the committee.

  • Phone Book/ LLC / Kerry Turner (Frederick News Post): The Phone Book is in the proofing stage.

  • The 2009 Membership Directory / Kerry Turner (Frederick News Post): We are proposing the RFP on South Carroll Business Association's book. The RFP has been sent out. One letter is going out to Chamber members with a 2009 Chamber decal, pricing for the ad, and a label for you to mail back. (Paul added that you can put the decal on a storefront or in your car window.) The second letter is for those who have not renewed. It will probably be between four to six weeks until members receive the directory.

DENNIS EMERSON, 2nd VICE PRESIDENT (Sherman Emerson Insurance, Inc.)

  • Membership / Dennis Emerson: We currently have 276 members. Thank you to Keir for his work on the Phone Book.

DENNY AHALT, TREASURER (New Windsor State Bank)

  • Finance Committee/ Denny Ahalt: For March, we had a beginning balance of $18,668.40. We had income of $2,5065.00. Our expenses were $10,287.14. The checking account balance on March 31 was $33,446.26, plus the CD value of $6,740.30, equals available funds on March 31 of $40,186.56. Denny related the two requests received. The first one was from a local high school student requesting funds for an international softball trip. The committee denied that request. The second was from Mt. Airy Elementary School for $5,839.52 for equipment carts. This request was approved by the committee and by the executive board. Denny moved to honor the request by the school. Tim Barkley seconded. Motion carried. The principal of Mt. Airy Elementary School will be here in May to receive our donation.

  • Scholarship Committee/ Tim Slane (Tim's Lawn and Landscape): There are a total of thirteen applications. The committee will meet on April 8th and the presentation of the scholarship money will be at the May general meeting.

PAUL CLAY, CORRESPONDING SECRETARY (RE/MAX Realty Group - Paul and Paula)

  • Ambassador Committee/ Paul Clay (RE/MAX) and Alyson Rothberg (Aflac): Paul talked about new member bags. Paul also mentioned the nametags and the blue Chamber plaques available for new members.

  • Social Committee/ Colleen Strube (Send Out Cards): We had sixty people attend the exchange at Stauffer's. Colleen thanked the sponsors, those who had tables, and everyone who participated. On April 16 we will have a joint exchange with the Brunswick Chamber from 6-8 M at the Crown Rose Manor. The Expo will be on April 18 from 9 AM to 4 PM. There will be a networking lunch on April 23 at the Green Turtle. On May 27 there will be a Costco event. A mini-golf tournament is in the planning stages for early June.

LAURIE DILKS, SECRETARY (Independent Distributor of Juice Plus+)

  • Professional Development/ Marlene Titus (Carroll County Community College, Miller Small Business Resource Center): Marlene introduced herself as the Professional Development Coordinator. We will have speakers after the general meetings in September, October, November and possible June. The topics most in demand are marketing tips, developing advertising materials, power point presentations, and stress reduction. She is also putting together one on accounting basics and Quick-Books.

  • Business Advisory Council/ Marlene Titus: James Jones, Ellie Bonde and Marlene are on the committee. Gave overview of the committee purpose.

CAROL CAHALL, IMMEDIATE PAT PRESIDENT (The Main Event)

  • Carroll County Chamber/ Marlene Titus (Carroll County Community College, Miller Small Business Resource Center): There will be a board meeting later in April. There are some empty seats on the board. Carol Cahall mentioned that the joint event with the Town of Mt. Airy and the Carroll County Chamber went very well and about 50 people attended. Anyone who is interested in joining the Carroll County Chamber should let Carol Cahall know so she can send you an invitation to a special reception.

  • Frederick County Chamber/ Archie Rogers (Rogers Engraving and Stamps): If you want to do business in Frederick County then you need to join the Frederick Chamber of Commerce. It costs $250.00 plus the administrative fee.

ANNOUNCEMENTS


  • Bob Cage announced a golf tournament to be held by the Carroll Technology Council.

  • Ellie Bonde announced the Chili Cook-Off to be held on Saturday the 4th at the Carnival Grounds.

  • Marlene Titus - coordinator at the college, wrote courses for specific businesses, e.g. landscaping, etc.

  • Paula Wilhelm will walk 39.3 miles for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk. Please pray for her.
